Get that adrenaline flowing when you indulge in a trekking expedition at Mullayyanagiri – the tallest peak in the Indian state of Karnataka. The peak gets its name from a small temple at the summit, which is dedicated to a sage named “Mulappa Swamy,” who is said to have meditated in the caves that are a few feet below the summit. This spectacular waterfall is tucked into the arms of a lush coffee field. Tourists can take a government-approved Jeep to navigate through the rough terrain and the last kilometre is usually done by foot, thus offering a memorable trekking experience. The Hebbe Falls gushes down into two stages forming a gigantic Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and a bite-sized Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls.) Get drenched into the wonderful sights and sounds of spectacular Hebbe Falls.

Jhari Falls is one of Chikmagalur’s most well-known waterfalls and is fondly referred to by the locals as the ‘Buttermilk Falls’ because of its creamy white texture. It is located in the heart of lush forests and coffee farms; the sublime settings make it ideal for unwinding and a perfect photo backdrop for social-media enthusiasts. This sanctuary is a “Project Tiger” reserve meant for the conservation of this striped beauty. It houses 33 tigers, in addition to several leopards, chitals, sambhars, and wild boars. These elevated forests feature humongous shola trees, teak, rosewood, clumping bamboo, and mountain grasslands among the other rich flora. Enjoy the beauty of this pristine forest on a safari and be inspired if you happen to spot this amazing creature in person.

This museum is possibly the best compliment to coffee, it is the best place to understand the history of coffee and the processes that include harvesting, drying, roasting, and grinding coffee beans. The experience is truly a visual and olfactory delight for all coffee aficionados. If you take your morning cuppa seriously this immersive experience will remain in your memories for a long time.

 When visiting Kemmangundi, be prepared for some spectacular views of the Western Ghats from Z Point. It gets its name because the peak seems to form the letter ‘Z’ when viewed from a distance. One of the most sought-after short treks in Chikamagalur, the summit can be reached after a 3 kms hike, making it a popular destination for adrenaline junkies. The view of the surrounding hills and the valley from the top is sure to leave you visually spellbound.

Ayyana Kere is Karnataka’s second largest lake. Its massive spread is just the second best thing about the lake, the first one being the breath taking views. Inhale the freshness of the air, enjoy the calm of the white noise created by the chirping of heterogenous birds, relish the delicacies sold around the lake, feel the bliss of the tranquil waters, and the spectacular scenery surrounding it, this place is truly a treat for your senses.

 The hill range christened Bababudangiri is named after the sufi saint revered by both Hindus and Muslims. He is said to have planted the first coffee beans in the region which he carried back from Port of Mocha upon his return from Hajj. It offers an outstanding trekking experience in the Chikmagalur highlands. The peaks of Budangiri (1895 m) and Mullayanagiri (1930 m) loom on the horizon presenting themselves as a visual treat when you begin on the trekking trail from Sarpadhari.

The Kallathigiri Falls, also known as the Kalhatti Falls, is located 50 kilometres away from Chikmagalur town. This waterfall is a popular location for both locals and visitors and is ideal for both leisure and excitement seekers. Kallatti is home to Lord Shiva’s Veerabhadra Temple, famously known as Veerabhadreshwara Temple. Throughout the year, hundreds of pilgrims visit the shrine.

Kudremukh is the top trekking spot in Chikmagalur. Generally, people board a jeep to reach the base of the peak as the starting point. The trekking experience would involve some delightful encounters of beautiful water streams, lush forests, chirping birds, and a plethora of flora and fauna. We recommend to start this trek early in the morning, as it gets harder to walk in the sun if you start by noon and it gets too dark if you choose to start in the evening.
